The Walking Dead Season 7: Spoilers, Cast, Air Date

“Season six ended on that note and season seven’s going to pick up right where we left off,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan confirmed back in April, insisting that there’ll be no time jump to further draw the ire of fans.

The Hollywood Reporter even claimed that all 11 actors potentially on the chopping block have filmed their own death scene, in order to preserve the identity of the victim and “to give producers flexibility on which character to ultimately kill off.”.

Though given the amount of time and money it would take to stage such a sideshow, this particular rumour feels a little dubious. Take with a pinch of salt…

Whoever dies, their death will “change the direction of the survivors forever” according to producer Greg Nicotero.

“When we shot the episode, that to me was as critical as the actual moment – the 5 minutes or 10 minutes or 20 minutes after, when the smoke clears.

“So it’s a fascinating exercise in emotion, because shock and denial and all these things play into it. It was a masterclass in acting from the cast.”

One thing is for certain, though. Whoever the victim might be, don’t expect The Walking Deadto just go back to normal in the aftermath of The Big Reveal.

“It’s only just beginning, really,” Lauren Cohan (Maggie) told Digital Spy of Negan’s reign of terror. “He has such a life, such an electric energy, and that what makes this character so terrifying.”

“The next season is a very different Walking Dead from the one we are accustomed to,” Nicotero told us in June, while series creator Robert Kirkman warned that Negan “is going to be an ever-present, constant threat that is going to change everything moving forward”.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself has also promised that things will get “seriously weird with Negan around” – while Andrew Lincoln has hinted that the villain’s rise will change Rick’s behaviour, too.

“He’s powerless for the first time since he woke up from the coma. Everything he’s worked for, for two years, has been shattered in 24 hours.

“So he’s not in a good space and I think if he makes it through the first episode, then he’s different. He’ll be a different man.”

New ally Ezekiel – the charismatic leader of a community known as The Kingdom and keeper of a pet tiger named Shiva – will join the series, played by Khary Payton.

(The tiger – in case you’re wondering – will be realised using a mixture of CGI and animatronics. No animals were harmed in the making of this zombie thriller.)

The TV series has already featured survivors from The Kingdom, with Morgan (Lennie James) and Carol (Melissa McBride) apparently encountering two of Ezekiel’s troops in the season six finale.

In the comic books, Ezekiel pursues a romance with Michonne (Danai Gurira) – though given that the TV show has paired her off with Rick, it’s doubtful the TV show will go down the same path.
